The first official Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer is here – released by Marvel a little bit earlier than expected due to someone leaking it (dammit Hydra!) – and I’m kind of glad we didn’t have to wait for too long because it is all kinds of awesome.
My super hero loving heart almost skipped a beat when I saw how freakin’ cool it looked.
It looks dark, full to the brim with action, the bad guy looks and sounds incredible and we get to see some serious Hulk action. It is basically everything you could wish for and hopefully more (roll on next April).
Below are seven reasons Avengers: Age of Ultron looks really, really great. (I have a sneaking suspicion this might just knock Captain America: Winter Soldier off the top spot and become the best of the Marvel franchise).
Ultron looks badass. Ultron sounds badass (thanks to the awesome James Spader). Not much more needs to be said than that really, but I do have to say that this is the kind of bad guy that will make things interesting, especially as it is something Tony Stark has created.
His cold logic and complete unwavering commitment to his mission is unlike anything we have seen before. Ultron is not going to be easy to defeat both mentally and physically, which is great as this means lots of awesome fights and plenty of destruction.
2. Conflict within the Avengers
Stark caused this mess, and none of the other Avengers look happy about it (especially Thor). The dynamics of this could be really good as we see how they either get closer as a team or fall apart while dealing with something that could end the world everyone knows.
3. Hulk fight
We get to see Hulk go toe-to-toe with Iron Man in the Hulkbuster suit.
Why? Who knows, it is most likely due to Hulk losing control. What is for sure, is that this will be spectacular as the fight is definitely not one sided.
4. Captain America
The pure hearted hero may have found that he has bitten off more than he can chew, especially if we go by his broken shield. What has happened to him?
Cap and Stark have never really been the best of friends and it will be interesting to see if this film will sew a further seed of discord to follow them into Captain America 3.
5. The destruction
The first Avengers movie had a tonne of destruction and it was great and this one looks to have a tonne more, meaning that the fallout from Ultron could be at a whole new devastating level, always good to watch with some popcorn.
The destruction this time is rather fascinating though, as it is not just buildings, it is the people and their emotions. The general population look to have a lot more to be worried about then whether their house insurance is up to date.
6. The action
So much glorious action. Hulk fights, Black Widow being dropped out of the sky on a motorcycle, Quicksilver zipping around the place faster than you can blink and Cap and everyone else getting into it. I am betting this trailer is just the tip of the iceberg.
7. Some Joss Whedon-style angst
I think Joss Whedon is at his best when his story lines are laced with action and a healthy dose of angst (think Buffy launching herself to her death in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and all the angst and action that led up to it and came after).
The trailer clearly shows everyone moping around and looking like they need a box of tissues and a big hug. This can only mean in a Whedon world that things are about to get all kinds of crazy, and that can only be a good thing.
