A British couple in their 20s have been found dead in a hotel room in India.

The bodies were discovered in Hotel Maya in the city of Agra, near the Taj Mahal.

Indian police believe the deaths are linked to a drug overdose.

Officers have identified them as James Oliver, 28, and Alexendra Nichola Gaskel, 24, from their passports.

The two had come to India in July, it has been reported.

They arrived in the hotel on Saturday October 18.

Hotel staff informed the police on Tuesday morning when there was no response from their room.

The bodies have been taken away for a post-mortem examination.
