A couple gave themselves the perfect wedding gift – a brand new home, writes Ginetta Vedrickas
Alesja Bojarchuk had been in love with Kingston since studying at university there, so when she and fiancé Dimitry were looking for their first home together there was only one place that would do.
‘I love Kingston but I had not realised how expensive property is there,’ explains 26-year-old Alesja.
For six months the couple pounded the pavements in search of an affordable home and one evening, during a stroll along the Thames, they spotted a hoarding for new development Kingston Riverside.
‘It was New Year’s Eve so we thought they’d be closed but within 30 minutes we’d decided to buy a flat there,’ Alesja laughs. ‘We’d thought it would be out of our price range, so when we realised it was possible we were so happy.’
The couple’s timing was good as they bought off-plan, giving them a chance to carry on saving while their one-bedroom apartment was still being built. At the time of buying, one-beds were for sale from around £285,000, but it was the apartment’s design and high-spec finishings that really impressed.
‘Dimitry’s father is a builder, so it’s been difficult finding somewhere that meets his high standards,’ explains Alesja.
Dimitry, 29, remembers nervously bringing his dad round to have a look. ‘He said it was flawless, fantastic, which gave us the extra reassurance that we’d made the right choice,’ he says.
The couple were also planning their wedding at the same time and again their timing proved perfect. Just two weeks after their wedding, their dream home was finished so they were able to move in and start married life together.
‘We didn’t even need to go on honeymoon,’ Alesja says. ‘It was perfect being able to move in so soon and it was like having your Christmas presents and wedding gift all in one go. It was a great way to start our marriage.’
