Coronation Street stalwart Steve McDonald will battle depression in secret until a tragedy forces him to take action.
Speaking at a press event for upcoming Corrie storylines, show boss Stuart Blackburn said: ‘A story close to my heart is Steve battling secret depression.
‘He’s scared and confused and he thinks that stuff like this doesn’t happen to people like him. He’s absolutely terrified of admitting it.’
Further explaining the storyline, he continued: ‘It will come to a head in January when a tragedy will strike that will force him to face those demons.
‘This is simply a love story between Steve and Michelle.’
There’s plenty more in story on the cobbles for the nation’s much-loved families, including Kylie Platt’s drug addiciton,
“This marks the start of a cracking three or four months’ worth of stories,” he said.
Corrie boss Stuart also revealed wild child Jenny Bradley would be returning to Weatherfield next year and Sean Tully would have a new love interest in a vicar called Billy.
Coronation Street continues on Friday on ITV1 at 7.30pm and again at 8.30pm.
