Reeva Steenkamp’s cousin says she feels ‘pretty numb’ after Oscar Pistorius’ sentencing.

Pistorius was jailed for five years for shooting his girlfriend dead on Valentine’s Day last year.

Reeva’s cousins Kim Martin told This Morning: ‘We never came here today hoping that Oscar would be put away for very long, we never held out much hope, but at the same time we do feel that time needs to be served to justify Reeva’s untimely death.

‘We mustn’t underestimate how difficult it will be for him in prison, but I do feel sorry for him but at the same time that doesn’t mean he mustn’t serve time for what he’s done.’

She added: ‘I owe it to my immediate family to now somehow try and carry on like normal, I think we could do that if we focus on Reeva and keep her voice and her memory alive. That is one of the ways we’ll be able to find comfort in all of this.’

After Pistorius was sentenced, he took off an expensive watch and handed it to a relative.

He was marched down the stairs and began his prison time.
