EastEnders’ script writers clearly weren’t expecting Jake Wood to do as well as he has done on Strictly Come Dancing because his character Max Branning had been omitted from all the major storylines in October and November, but not December.

And Jake is convinced they expected him to be back in Albert Square full-time by now.

‘It’s almost as if they scheduled it expecting me to go out and then had Max getting busier up to Christmas,’ he told The Mirror

‘They’re writing me out of stuff as we speak. It means I can get fully focused on the last few weeks of Strictly.’

And while there’s every chance Max could be taking home that glitterball trophy he says he’s still ‘fully committed’ to EastEnders.

‘I’ve got no plans to leave,’ he added.

Strictly kicks off tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
