‘Last ever footage of Amelia Earhart’ is discovered

This film may be the last footage of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart before her fateful final flight.

Experts are split on when the footage was actually taken, with some believing it was shot in March 1937, moments before setting off on her first solo round-the-world attempt which ended prematurely when her plane crashed.

Others claim it is from May of that year, just two months before Earhart set out on her final voyage – making it the last footage ever taken of her.

Filmed on the runway at Burbank Airport (now Bob Hope Airport) in California, the footage shows Earhart smiling and posing on her plane, the Lockheed Electra L-10E.

Earhart’s plane famously disappeared over the Pacific ocean shortly after setting off from New Guinea.

Speculation as to how her flight ended continues to this day.
