Manchester United are still hopeful of completing the signing of Victor Valdes within the next two weeks – after the goalkeeper trained with the club on Friday.
The Spaniard – who is a free agent after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season following a serious knee injury – has spent this week working on his fitness with United.
Despite reports claiming that Valdes had rejected Louis van Gaal’s offer of a short-term contract, The Mail have claimed that the shot-stopper could yet join the club within the next fortnight.
It is believed that Valdes’ agent Gines Carvajal and another representative met with United chiefs on Thursday evening and are continuing talks about a prospective deal – with United doctors still assessing the player’s knee injury.
Valdes was on the verge of completing a move to United’s rivals, Liverpool, but the deal fell through at the last minute.
The 32-year-old missed out on his nation’s World Cup campaign this summer after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and undergoing surgery while playing for Barca last season.
