Twitter has received the royal stamp of approval after the Queen sent her first message on the social media site.

And no, it wasn’t done by one of her servants who were forced to come up with a witty remark.

Instead, the head of the state decided to get her hands dirty by jumping into the world of trolls, narcissists and banter kings.

The 88-year-old even removed a glove to type the tweet on a touchscreen tablet at a new gallery she was officially opening in central London’s Science Museum.

There was nothing controversial about the first message though, with the Queen writing: ‘It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.’

The royal, who sent the tweet through the official British monarchy account, is quite the trendsetter and was previously the first monarch to send an email in 1976.
