‘You silly tart, you should’ve told me,’ growled Buster as he was being led away by the boys in blue. ‘He’s mine an’all ain’t he?’
A week of shocking bombshells centring on the Carter family has just reached an end and the twists kept coming. Dean has been briefly reunited with his new dad who planned to take him and Shirley on the run.
But, in the closing minutes of the episode, viewers were delivered another surprise, as it emerged that Buster isn’t just Dean’s dad; he’s Mick’s too.
The revelations of the week from Stan’s terminal illness, to Linda’s clinic appointment and from Lee’s violent outburst to Shirley’s secrets tumbling out have left the Carter family in turmoil and the stress vein is already pulsing in Mick’s forehead as he watches his family start to crumble around him.
Not prepared to let Buster take away Shirley and Dean, Mick thinks he’s done the right thing by calling the police, little knowing that the one thing that could have gotten his marriage back on track was Linda seeing the back of Dean for good.
It’s been an emotional, Carter heavy week but the best scenes have been the ones where they’re all sitting together and we can marvel at the sheer complexity of the storylines woven together.
With the ticking timebombs of the rape secret, Mick’s paternity and Stan’s illness getting closer to exploding, the upcoming winter weeks in Walford are going to be very interesting indeed.
At the start of this week, I foretold that the Carter family would never be the same again by Friday. But just wait until you see what the rest of the year has in store for them. It’s going to be big.
