EXCLUSIVE: Thom Evans lifts the lid on what is really going on between he and his Strictly dance partner Iveta Lukosiute as he tells Guilty Pleasures about the highs and lows of life on the nation’s favourite show…
I haven’t cried yet. I struggle to cry in general but I’ve certainly been a broken man on many occasions.
There’s been a few Wednesdays when the realisation that I’m doing a dance on the weekend hasn’t sunk in and I’ve been close to breaking point but that’s part of the beauty of the show – everyone goes through it.
I’ve learnt now that the performance side is what it’s all about. Even if you mess up a step, if you have a smile on your face while you’re doing it, it will be hard to notice unless you’re one of the judges.
I’ve also been flattered people have been commenting on the chemistry Iveta and I have on stage. I have no idea why people are so interested in my love life! I think because we’re both single and I’m the only single person on the show there’s always going to be speculation.
To be honest, I’d be slightly worried if we had no chemistry. I think, with dancing, it’s all about the acting – you have to have in your head that she’s the person of your dreams. I don’t find that an issue at all – she’s very easy in that department.
Strictly has been the ultimate workout. I like to do a lot of weights and be active but I haven’t done any since I started Strictly and I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. I’m loving being a bit lighter and leaner – I feel better and more in proportion. Dancing has certainly opened my eyes – I’m using muscles I’ve never used before!
