E-cigarettes have now been banned from most British trains, stations and platforms despite it being totally legal (Picture: Amy Willis) If you’re an ex-smoker who enjoys a cheeky e-cig while waiting for your train, you might be dismayed by this sign that has popped up in train stations across Britain this week. It is telling anyone who stops to read it that Southern Railways will ban e-cigarettes on all their 2,500 train services and 156 stations from July 26. But what is particularly striking about this ban is how most of Britain’s train companies have also quietly banned e-cigarettes – despite it not being illegal to vape in public places. Why? Apparently because some train companies consider e-cigs bad for your health, while […] Read more →

Policeman quits after pool party video of him pushing over black teen and brandishing gun A police officer in Dallas has resigned after he was recorded pushing a black teenage girl to the ground outside a pool party and brandishing his gun at others. Officer David Eric Casebolt was ‘out of control’ and his actions were ‘indefencible’, though he was not pressured to quit, McKinney police chief Greg Conley said after the officer submitted his resignation. The video was posted online after officers responded to calls on Friday and it quickly went viral. The 41-year-old former Texas state trooper and ten year veteran of the McKinney force was put on administrative leave after the incident. […] Read more →

Facebook app now lets you post anonymously – and the social network says trolls won’t be a problem Rooms will let people interact without having to use their name (Picture: Getty Images) Facebook has released a new app that will let users communicate anonymously – and the social network says trolls and online bullying won’t be an issue. Rooms, a standalone mobile app for iOS, aims to allow users to discuss sensitive issues they would ordinarily not be comfortable doing by letting them interact on Facebook without having to use their real names. And the social network claims that trolls will not be able to take advantage of the anonymity as moderators can ban devices instead of users – meaning internet bullies […] Read more →

Why West Brom are delighted they signed Joleon Lescott and not Rio Ferdinand West Bromwich Albion’s English defender Joleon Lescott has been in fine form this season (Picture: Getty Images) West Brom have kept an impressive three clean sheets from their first eight games this season. Some would say that’s an average amount but, when you consider the transition in personnel over all four positions and our trips included St Mary’s and White Hart Lane, it’s not bad going. It was no coincidence that two came back-to-back the moment Joleon Lescott was introduced to the starting XI. After an injury-hit pre-season, the free signing from Manchester City excelled on his debut in the 1-0 […] Read more →

Sheep walk across London Bridge and no, it’s not a metaphor for city workers A man walking his sheep over London Bridge this morning. As you do. #SE1 #LondonBridge pic.twitter.com/0aDEnVMwyF — Anita Klein (@anitakleinart) October 21, 2014 Sheep making their way across London Bridge wasn’t a metaphor for city workers today, it actually happened. If that wasn’t bizarre enough legendary Welsh comedian Griff Rhys Jones showed up to add his wit, although it wasn’t needed as the situation was humorous enough. The 60-year-old seemed in cahoots with the owners of the sheep who had been pulling the animals along on red leashes. @DTFestival Griff Rhys Jones with little sheep near London Bridge this morning for Dylan Thomas #DTFestival pic.twitter.com/C5lI9WWjNN — […] Read more →
