We could imagine this getting quite awks.

Following the shocking finding that 47 per cent of Brits have never had a kiss under the mistletoe – we know, it’s almost as though we’re just getting drunk at Christmas parties and lunging for the nearest available mouth – TGI Fridays has launched the UK’s first mistletoe drone.

The drone can fly at 35mph and has already been successfully trialled at the chain’s Manchester restaurant. It also has a ‘kiss cam’ aboard and it’s coming to selected restaurants near you soon.

It hovers 8ft above diners and then swoops in to break the ice.

We sort of like the idea, though it might get slightly awkward if you happen to be sitting next to the boss at the office Christmas lunch.

A spokesperson for the restaurant said: ‘We wanted to see how we could make Christmas get-together in our restaurants even more entertaining.

‘We offered guests the encouragement they need to make their move – particularly the one half of UK adults who have never had a kiss under the mistletoe.

‘Our mistletoe drones are the perfect way to do this. Not only are they great fun for the entire restaurant, but they help people get a little closer at this romantic time of the year.’

Okay, we may have just brought up a little of our Very Berry Sundae.

But the guys at TGI HQ have got their fingers crossed: ‘Maybe we’ll have had our first mistletoe drone wedding by this time next year.’

Now there’s a story to tell the grandchildren.

So, if you fancy a little tonguing over your turkey burger (soz, have we just ruined the romance?), or perhaps a little extra frisson over the team Christmas lunch, you know where to go.
