The moment an innocent man is freed after 39 years in prison

A 53-year-old man has been released from prison after 39 years after being wrongly convicted of the 1975 murder of a money order salesman.

Ricky Jackson was found innocent after a key eyewitness recanted his statement saying he was present at the time of the murder of Harold Franks.

Mr Jackson is the longest serving prisoner to be fully exonerated of his crimes in United States history according to a lawyer from the Ohio Innocence Project.

The eyewitness, Eddie Vernon, was 12-years-old when the crime took place and his revised statement said he was on a school bus at the time.

Jackson told reporters outside the courthouse: ‘It’s extraordinary, I’m glad to be out, it has been an emotional roller coaster.’

‘The English language doesn’t have the words to express how I’m feeling right now.”
