QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has labelled Harry Redknapp and Adel Taarabt’s public war of words an ‘embarrassment’ to Queens Park Rangers.
Redknapp criticised Taarabt for being three stone overweight on Monday, which resulted in the 25-year-old releasing pictures of his body to prove that he wasn’t out of shape.
The QPR manager then hit back at Taarabt a day later – saying the midfielder’s recent bout of tonsillitis was the real reason for the player appearing fully fit before he branded Taarabt ‘the worst professional’ he had ever worked with.
Club chairman Fernandes has now given his thoughts on the spat after revealing that both Redknapp and Taarabt had been spoken to about their ‘embarrassing’ conduct.
‘As a club, we are fully aware of stories in the press over the last few days regarding Harry Redknapp and Adel Taarabt,’ Fernandes said in a QPR statement.
‘We regret these issues being played out in public and both Harry Redknapp and Adel Taarabt have been notified of our disappointment regarding their handling of the situation. I have spoken to them both personally.
‘On behalf of the club, I would like to apologise to the QPR supporters for the embarrassment this has caused and confirm that the issue has been dealt with internally.
‘The club’s entire focus is now on the Aston Villa fixture next Monday and hopefully after a tough few days we can turn a negative into a positive and build on Sunday’s improved display.’
